Kid chews out mom on Xbox live

I'm not really convinced that this is 100% genuine, but the message is the same either way. Parents in general have become afraid of the power that their children wield. To punish misdeeds is to risk getting carted off to the evening news and stoned to death as an abusive monster. At the very least the Xbox should have been promptly torn from it's harnesses and met a violent end against the pavement of the driveway. RedAssedBaboon.com needs to have credit for posting this first. I feel the need to boost it on down the line with my own opinion. Check the link for the media file.
update: looks like the traffic is booming on this one. Sign up for a free account after you get into filecloud, then you can download it. I'll work on getting a mirror up.

Kick Ass Kung-Fu

Finally! Man i've been waiting for this one for I don't know how long. This gives me a good reason to practice my handspring to hurricane kick. Now all I have to do is throw out everything in my living room so I can have enough space to play this thing.

"Kick Ass Kung-Fu is an immersive game installation that transforms computer gaming into a visual, physical performance like dance or sports. You can fight and defy gravity like kung-fu movie actors - only there's no wires or post-production needed, thanks to the real-time embodied interaction and virtual set technology."

Crawling out from under a frozen rock

Call me a cave man. I'm now a proud owner of an ipod mini. Possibly the dizzying pricetag of these little miracles kept me away for so long. I'm pretty sure that it can't cost quite that much to produce one of these little guys, so someone somewhere is getting really, really fat of the tears of little asian children. Good for them. Good for me for finally coughing up the dough to rock The Mars Volta straight to ma' dome. I can now stand proud again in the techno-clan. Until, that is, I ask some really newbie question to one of my teenage friends about my newfangled thingamujigger and get exposed as some rock-toting luddite.

Nantucket Film Festival - part three

Casey Affleck plays Jim, a young man who, after deciding he can't make it on his own, moves back to his hometown in Indiana -- under his parents' roof. He's saved from his family's dysfunction by a local woman and her son, who sees him as a father figure.
Steve Buscemi's "Lonesome Jim" was difficult at times because of it's depressed and defeated characters nature. Even so, it was still a joy to watch. Steve and the screenwriter also showed for a very fun Q&A.

Nantucket Film Festival - part two

The Real Dirt on Farmer John is a personal documentary about John Peterson, a farmer, artist, and revolutionary innovative thinker cast in rural Illinois. Filmmaker Taggart Siegel has documented John's struggle to redefine his family farm for over twenty years, witnessing the colorful drama of John's life. Photographs and home movies spanning 70 years juxtapose with dynamic recent footage. John Peterson appeared after the film for Q&A. Look for this one to show up on PBS.

Nantucket Film Festival - part one.

So here I am at Nantucket Film Fest. Drive by sighting of Steve Martin, Check. Haven't seen any film yet, but it looks like Steve Buscemi will be at the Q&A after the film "Lonesome Jim". Woo! Looking forward to gawking at a celebrity. More later.

Scaling Mount Feces

Climbers tackling North America's tallest mountain face challenges aside from high altitudes and low temperatures. They also must dodge piles of human crap. "They think they're going out on a pristine climb, and there's virus-laden poo all around them," said Dr. Bradford Gessner, a mountaineer and author of a study published in Wilderness and Environmental Medicine. The abundant human waste sickens many climbers: More than a quarter of the 132 adventurers interviewed on Mount McKinley for the study suffered from diarrhea, which can worsen mountain sickness and cause other problems. While the report offered sanitation suggestions, a mountaineering ranger said harsh conditions at McKinley's high camp exacerbate the problem. "It's just an ice pack up there," he said. "You really can't dig down and bury anything."

RoboGamer - making real friends obsolete

Leave it to Akihiro Shirai and his zany group of cyber-geeks to think up RoboGamer. Right now it only plays Pong. Teach the thing Tekken5 and I'm in for user testing.

Weapons In Space: Dawn of a New Era

This makes me really sad. I was hoping that all this rubbish would die off with Reagan. Leave it to the monkeyman (Bush) to spend our hard earned money on the important things... like guns in space. 'cause we need that, right? Don't we? I feel safer already. Pretty soon we'll be able to buy plummeting satellite insurance. yay. now there's a circle-jerk economy plot, eh?

Guild Wars - MMORPG gets some action

"In Guild Wars, you play as a hero from Ascalon, your typical fantasy province that's fallen on hard times, thanks to relentless assaults from fearsome creatures called the charr. Ascalon seems huge and wondrous as you begin to explore it and its outskirts. But it turns out to be literally just a tiny portion of the richly detailed and shockingly gigantic world of Tyria, which you'll explore during the course of an adventure that's truly epic. Meanwhile, the other half of the game consists of competitive battles between teams of players, set in various types of arena events. It's action packed, it's tactical, and it's sporting. It's definitely more involved than a pick-up-and-play first-person shooter, but it's relatively easy to learn and certainly difficult to master. Unlike many other online RPGs, which often take a lot of flak from their audiences for lacking a definitive endgame, Guild Wars gives the impression that it was built with the endgame competition as a primary concern. However, one of its big surprises is just how much noncompetitive content there is. Even if you have no interest in player-versus-player battling whatsoever, Guild Wars will still provide you with more than 100 hours of quality gameplay, which you can tackle either alone or together with other players pretty much every step of the way." - Gamespot Review

Real-life Tetris

I'm such a sucker for this kind of thing... Not that I've ever seen anything quite like this, but you get the idea. Note: This is way cooler than the whole "real life Mario" thing. In my opinion.

Eels: blinking lights and other revelations

The new eels album, BLINKING LIGHTS AND OTHER REVELATIONS, is a two disc album about "God and all the questions related to the subject of God," says it's creator, Mark Oliver Everett, also known as eels leader E. "It's also about hanging on to my remaining shreds of sanity and the blue sky that comes the day after a terrible storm," he adds, "and it's a love letter to life itself, in all its beautiful, horrible glory."

Optware to Release 30 GB Holographic Card

My father used to tell me about this kind of stuff as a bedtime story when I was a little kid. It has always been in the back of my mind. Knowing that holographic data storage is a reality now makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Props to my pops for knowing about this stuff 30 years ago.

Dance Dance Immolation!

I readily admit to my friends (and usually anyone else who will listen) that I love Dance Dance Revolution. I think it's a great way to get those chunker-butt fat kids up and off the couch, even if it is for only a little while. But NOW there's a wonderful new twist. Dance Dance Immolation combines DDR and flamethrowers to the face. Brilliant! I can't wait to host the next DDR party and try it out! Props to Interpretive Arson for being so clever.

Store Wars | Join the Organic Rebellion

Props to my pal Feurtaugh for passing this along to me. I know that there's only like a bazillion Star Wars spoofs out there, and why might you ask? So that ones like Store Wars can rise, rise like an x-wing from a feculent swamp to the top! heh. No, seriously. This one's pretty cute. You'll probably look at broccoli a little differently after watching it.

U.S. Edits Global Warming Reports

Spike TV defiles E3

So i flip on the tube last nite. Spike tv is showing a spot called "Ultimate Gamer". Looks like pimp my life, geek style. I must confess that I watched it all the way through. At the end I decided that I loved video games soooo much more when they weren't cool. Leave it to mainstream media to throw it's fetid club-like penis appendage into everything fun and totally make you have bad dreams about it.

Shadow Of The Colossus

From the makers of ICO comes Shadow Of The Colossus, sometime this fall. If you remember ICO, you can probably recall how beautifully the game was put together. With so much digital trash out there these days, I'm really hoping that Colossus delivers another much needed respite. It looks like this game will be a little Prince of Persia (sands of time), a little Rygar, and a whole lot of running away from gigantic things that want to crush you to oblivion. Check the link for a nice little trailer.

System: PlayStation 2
Number of Players: 1

Okami - Japanese scroll art collides with video game

It looks like Capcom is brewing up something actually quite ... hold on... wait for it.... NEW in the realm of artsy-action genre video games. Games like Viewtiful Joe have been around for a couple clock cycles already, but Okami looks to be really pushing the envelope with stylized animation here. Head over to 1UP.COM to see what all the hullaboo is about.
